Few weeks ago, I came across a video on Youtube. The video was about a
bunch of teenagers commenting on a video of Mandela
Effect. The video excited me tho because the fact that Mandela Effect told
us shocked not only those teenagers in video but also me as the viewer. Some
facts are even jaw-dropping for me as I realized that the information that I
have stored in my memory all this time is not valid. It is not a surprise that
this thing is garnering more and more attention and becoming new internet trend
(at least at the time this article is made).
Mandela has been coined with "false memory" phenomenon via https://i1.wp.com |
So for you who are not familiar with the term of “Mandela Effect”, I will
give you a brief explanation about what it is actually. So Mandela Effect is a
phenomenon in which we are believe that particular information is true but
turns out it is not. Sometime people would also call it “false memory”.
Why is it ‘Mandela”? So turns out, it is not a coincidence that the name
of “Mandela” is used to refer to this false memory phenomenon. Back in the 80’s many people would say and
believe that Nelson Mandela, a South African anti-apartheid activist who later
become the president of the country, had died. Those people argued that they
had witnessed Mandela funeral through their TV screens. Later, what they
believed as true was actually invalid as Nelson Mandela was still alive in 80’s.
He was declared dead on December 5, 2013, four decades later.
The controversy of this phenomenon was airing among many people. Some
would state that they had a bad memory that result in false information they
stored while others would speculate more crazy theory. They would argue that
they had gone to a parallel universe that affect their memory. But, whichever
the speculation is, Mandela effect is really an interesting phenomenon to know.
And for your deeper insight of this effect, some examples of Mandela effect will
be provided below!
a.
The show isn’t called ‘Sex in the
city”.
Turns out, "in the" is not there. It is "and the" vias kkaaaryyy / HBO / Via Twitter: @kkaaaryyy |
Yup! Some
people would insist that they have remembered the title of the movie would be “Sex
in the City” while the fact says otherwise. It is not ‘in the” the phrase put
between “sex” and “city”, it is “and the”.
The correct title
should be “sex and the city”. It is explainable tho for me why some people
would go “sex in the city” for the title rather than “sex and the city” because
the former give more sense than the later.

The tip of Pikachu is not black!
It is not black,it is yellow. And it is a fact! via http://Pokémon.com |
Who doesn’t know
Pikachu, the phenomenal character from the also phenomenal anime Pokemon that has been entertaining us
for years! But what do you recall about the tail of this character, especially
the tip? Is it yellow or is it black?
If your answer
is black, then you have been affected Mandela effect all this time. The truth
is the tip of Pikachu’s tail is yellow not black!
It is also explainable!
Some arguing that the tip of Pikachu’s tail is black may be because it more
matches with the tip of this character’s ears that has black color end.

Curious George never had tail
It apparently has no via https://img.buzzfeed.com |
I watched this
cartoon every Sunday Morning when I was kid. And as long as I can remember,
this cute little monkey has a tail. I can recall the scene where he was jumping
from tree to tree, branch to branch using his feet and tail. But again, maybe
my memory was wrong! Maybe it was a scene from another movie who also has a
little monkey as the character.
Because the
truth is, this monkey doesn’t have a tail. What?!!!!!!!!
Yes, that what
I said when I knew the truth. I was shocked and I am a living proof that Mandela
effect can “attack” everyone.
d.
No it is actually not “Luke, I am
your father”.
And the last
one is the Mandela effect from one of the most phenomenal movies “Star Wars”. “Luke,
I am your father” is one of the most remembered and famous line from the movie.
All people would remember that Dart Vader said that line when he was fighting
Luke.
But turns out,
Dart Vader didn’t say the line as we would remember it is. What he actually
said is “No, I am your father”. Yes! It is not “Luke”, it is “No”.
